Kirtan is something very close to our hearts at Deva, and we are delighted to be supporting our wonderful Kelly Jarvis as she continues to grow into such an inspiring and heartfelt Kirtan leader.
Kelly has been part of a number of our Deva retreats over the years, supporting us and sharing beautiful chanting and Kirtan sessions with our retreat communities. We have had the pleasure of watching her own journey unfold as her confidence, experience and love for the practice have continued to grow.
That journey is now taking Kelly further afield, hosting Kirtans here in the UK as well as supporting and assisting on retreats internationally, while continuing to deepen her own study and practice.
Kelly has trained with highly experienced teachers around the world, alongside many years of self-study and personal practice. We are therefore very happy to be supporting her as she takes this next step and shares her experience through her own immersive Kirtan training.
About the Training
This immersive 4-day, 3-night residential training has been created for anyone wishing to deepen their understanding and experience of Kirtan and Bhakti Yoga, and particularly for those who would like to develop the skills and confidence to begin sharing or leading Kirtan themselves.
Over four days, Kelly will guide you through the foundations of Kirtan and mantra chanting in a warm, supportive and practical learning environment.
The training will explore mantra, chanting, rhythm, melody and the use of the harmonium, alongside the devotional roots and philosophy of Bhakti Yoga. There will be plenty of opportunity to practise together, ask questions, experiment, build confidence and experience what it feels like to hold and share Kirtan within a group.
You do not need to be an accomplished singer or musician to take part. This is about finding your own voice, understanding the practice and developing the skills to share Kirtan authentically and from the heart.
During the Four Days You Will Explore
- The foundations and traditions of Kirtan and Bhakti Yoga
- Mantra, chanting and pronunciation
- How to begin leading and holding a Kirtan
- Working with melody, rhythm and repetition
- Harmonium guidance and support for beginners
- Building confidence in your voice and your own style of leading
- Daily Kirtan and chanting practice
- Yoga and complementary devotional practices
- Practical experience within a supportive group environment
- Developing confidence to weave the power of Kirtan into your own yoga classes.
There will also be time to rest, connect with others and enjoy delicious nourishing food and the beautiful surroundings of Bore Place.
Bore Place
The training takes place at Bore Place, a very special historic estate nestled in the beautiful Kent countryside.
Surrounded by organic farmland, woodland and nature, with a strong focus on sustainability and connection to the land, Bore Place provides a wonderfully peaceful environment in which to learn, practise and immerse yourself fully in the experience.
Being residential offers something that is difficult to recreate in a shorter workshop: four days away from the usual distractions of everyday life, giving you the time and space to really live, breathe and experience the practices you are learning.
