Late Summer- Transitioning
Did you know in Chinese Medicine they have 5 seasons instead of 4? They consider Late Summer a separate season. In the Chinese calendar Late Summer is from mid August-22nd September when the Autumn Equinox occurs. This time is a transitional period when we return to the middle between the expansive growth of Spring and Summer (Yang) and the more inward energy of Autumn and Winter (Yin).
Late Summer is closely linked to the Earth element. This is a good time to start grounding our minds and bodies, getting into routines and quietly reflecting on the experiences we have had so far this year, as we move from a vibrant, energy filled Summer to a calmer and slower Autumn.
The organ linked with Late Summer is Spleen, nourishing your Stomach and Spleen is important during this season to prepare your body for Autumn.
How to support yourself through Late Summer
- Include yellow foods such as corn, squash, sweet potatoes and peppers which are good to support your Spleen,
- Eat more cooked and nourishing foods to support your body and immune system,
- Reduce the raw and cold foods we enjoyed during the Summer
